If we go by the definition of the content marketing, then as per Content marketing institute it's something like
"a strategic marketing approach focused on creating and distributing valuable, relevant, and consistent content to attract and retain a clearly-defined audience — and, ultimately, to

They have explained it quite well but if I have to simplify that I would say, content marketing is the process to share relevant and useful content to your targeted audience and help them to decide
on their purchase. If your content is the most valuable and helpful to them then there are high chances that they would prefer your product/services over your competitors.
